RIM Seminar - Feb. 9 - Pierce on Radar Interferometry

A RIM Seminar Wednesday February 9th, 2011 at Noon. The seminar will take place in the Marcus Nano Building at the corner of Ferst Dr and Atlantic Dr. Lunch will be provided.

Spaceborne Radar Interferometry
Leland Pierce
University of Michigan
Abstract:
The basics of radar and waves are introduced, followed by a description of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR). A few examples are shown as to what is possible, and then Interferometric SAR (IFSAR) is developed. Some examples showing how IFSAR is used to obtain information on forest structural parameters ends the talk.
Bio:
Leland Pierce received his PhD from The University of Michigan in 1991. Since then he has been the head of the Michigan Microwave Image Processing Laboratory, developing techniques for estimating land cover properties using Synthetic Aperture Radar in combination with optical/IR sensors as well as Lidar.
