The Robotics Ph. D. Program is offered through a collaboration of participating academics units at Georgia Tech.
- What are the academic units participating in the Robotics Ph. D. Program?
The College of Computing and within the College of Engineering the Schools of Aerospace Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering.
- What is a home unit?
Students in the Robotics Ph. D. Program must be first admitted to one of the participating academic units which is then designated as the student's home unit.

- Where does one apply to the Robotics Ph. D. Program?
All application forms for graduate work at Georgia Tech are accepted through the Graduate Admissions web site, http://www.gradadmiss.gatech.edu
- How is a home unit selected?
On page 1, item 14, of the application form you must select a degree and major (press button); select the Ph. D. as the degree objective; select one of the following majors which will correspond to your home unit: Aerospace Engineering, Biomedical Engineering (Biomedical Eng), Computer Science (College of Computing), Electrical & Computer Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
- If my home unit is Aerospace Engineering, how do I indicate my interest in the Robotics Ph. D. Program on the application form?
On page 4, item 1 - Research Activities, select as 1st choice - *Systems Design and Optimization. Next select the following "Yes" and the check box for "Autonomous & Robotic Flight Systems Design". In the item 4 narrative, state at the beginning that you are interested in the Robotics Ph. D. Program.
- If my home unit is Biomedical Engineering, how do I indicate my interest in the Robotics Ph. D. Program on the application form?
On page 4, in the item 4 narrative, state at the beginning that you are interested in the Robotics Ph. D. Program.
- If my home unit is College of Computing, how do I indicate my interest in the Robotics Ph. D. Program on the application form?
On page 4, item 1, select "Robotics" as your 1st choice. In the item 12 narrative – Statement of Purpose, state at the beginning that you are interested in the Robotics Ph. D. Program.
- If my home unit is Electrical & Computer Engineering, how do I indicate my interest in the Robotics Ph. D. Program on the application form?
On page 4, item 1, select "Systems and Control" as your 1st choice. In the Statement of Purpose narrative (below item 7), state at the beginning that you are interested in the Robotics Ph. D. Program.
- If my home unit is Mechanical Engineering, how do I indicate my interest in the Robotics Ph. D. Program on the application form?
On page 4, item 3, select "Automation & Mechatronics" as your 1st choice. In the item 4 narrative, state at the beginning that you are interested in the Robotics Ph. D. Program.
- How is my application processed for the Robotics Ph. D. Program?
Your application is first processed in the same manner as other applications to the home unit. Applications that satisfy the requirements of the home units are forwarded to the Robotics Ph.D. Program Committee for review. Decisions for admissions are made jointly between the home unit and the Robotics Ph.D. Program Committee.
Application Process - Students Currently Enrolled
- How does one apply to the Robotics Ph. D. Program?
Communicate with your home-unit representative on the Robotics Graduate committee that you are interested in transferring into the Robotics Ph.D. program. You MUST be a current PhD student in your home department.
- What paper work is required for the transfer?
Submit a program of study form, a resume, copy of your transcript, statement of purpose, and a letter of recommendation. You may also submit any other materials that you wish us to consider. Your program of study form must be signed by a faculty member, which, in most cases, will be your current advisor.
- What's next?
At the next scheduled meeting, the Robotics Graduate Committee will discuss your application. If your application is accepted by the Robotics Graduate Committee, then to complete the process you would submit a change of major form to the Robotics PhD through your home unit.
